Rudyard Kipling
Rudyard Kipling was an English journalist, short-story writer, poet and novelist. He is best ___________(1) for his poems and stories set in India during the period of British imperial rule.
He was born ___________(2) Bombay, India on 30 December 1865. His father was an artist and a teacher. In 1870, Kipling was taken back to England where he got his education. In 1882, he returned back to India and worked as a journalist, writing poetry and fiction in his spare time.
In 1892, Kipling married the sister of his American friend and went to the United States, ___________(3) the family of his wife lived. Their two daughters were born there and in 1894 Kipling wrote one of his most famous literary works «The Jungle Book». In 1896, the Kiplings moved back to England and settled in Torquay, Devon. Kipling was one of the most popular writers in the United Kingdom. He wrote books for children and adults. Kipling’s works of fiction ___________(5) «The Jungle Book», «Kim», «The Man Who Would Be King». His poems include «Mandalay», «Gunga Din», «The Gods of the Copybook Headings», «If—». Kipling was the first English author who received the Noble Prize for Literature in 1907.
Kipling died on 18 January 1936 and is buried at Westminster Abbey.
