Ukraine is situated in the eastern part of Europe. Its territory is about 603,700 square kilometres. It is washed by the Black Sea and the Azov Sea in the south.

The climate of Ukraine is moderately continental. It means that summers are usually hot and dry with average temperature of 22—23 degrees above zero. Winters are usually mild without severe frosts. However, there are snowfalls and bitter winds.

As any state Ukraine has a national flag, a national emblem and a national anthem. The national flag has two colours: the top is blue and the bottom is yellow. The national emblem is the trident. The lyrics to the anthem of Ukraine were written by Pavlo Chubynskyi and the music was composed by Mykhailo Verbytskyi.

The most important city of Ukraine is Kyiv. It is located in the north of the central part of the country on the banks of the river Dnipro. It was founded sometime in the 5th century and now it is a picturesque city with nearly 3 million inhabitants.

Ukrainian people are known as friendly, generous and hospitable. They are hard-working and proud of their traditions and culture. They are also skilful, brave and determined.

Ukrainians traditionally celebrate New Year, Christmas, Easter, Independence Day and Constitution Day. There are some other holidays that are popular in Ukraine.
